This Library Lates event is… drumroll please… Scrap and Yap!

Scrap and Yap invites you to play with fabric, and enjoy an evening of crafty conversation. Facilitated by the Sustainability team, we’ll create new decor for the Communities Lounge on campus (or your own home), using fabric offcuts and upcycled materials. We are all about re-use, re-design and re-thinking materials to reduce waste and create circularity. Take a moment for yourself, away from your screens, pick up new skills, and help create warm and welcoming new decor.

Across the evening, you can settle in with a cup of tea, chat with others, and try your hand at simple textile crafts. No experience needed, all materials provided, just bring yourself! Scrap and Yap is all about creativity, social connection, and the joy of making something together.

Come along to craft, chat, chill, and have a cuppa.

Library Lates is open to UTAS students, staff, and the university community, and Scrap and Yap is proudly delivered in collaboration between the University of Tasmania and the Sustainability Integration Program for Students (SIPS).

Library Lates is a new afterhours event series at the Morris Miller Library, Sandy Bay, reimagining the library as a space for connection, creativity, and conversation at sunset. Held on the last Thursday of each month, it offers a relaxed social or wellbeing activity alongside a welcoming evening atmosphere, while the library remains fully open for study. Students can continue working, take a mental reset, or connect with others in a low‑pressure environment that supports both productivity and wellbeing. Staff are also warmly invited, helping build a shared sense of community. Library Lates transforms a regular study night into an experience people look forward to. Calm, inclusive, and connected.
