Orientation

Your journey starts here

Your Orientation

Orientation is an interactive welcome week designed to introduce you to your course, your learning environment, and everything the University of Tasmania has to offer.

As you register, you’ll be able to explore a personalised program of events tailored to your region and study area, including any compulsory , recommended or optional sessions.

Be sure to sign up for social activities on your campus - like tours, O-Day, Welcome Dinners and a range of student-led events both online and on-campus.

Have your course,  study area and region details ready when you register, and keep an eye on your university email for any updates to your Orientation program.

Key Orientation events

International Orientation
(compulsory for international students. Note: International Pathway students are exempt)

At this session - you’ll meet International Student Advisers and receive important information about your visa, your studies, and life in Tasmania. This session covers essential details to help you settle in and meet your visa requirements.

Attendance will be recorded. If you’re unable to attend, you’ll be required to attend a Late Arrival Orientation at a later date to receive the same information.

New to Town
(highly recommended for all international and domestic students who are new to either Hobart or Launceston)

Our 'New to Town' day is an interactive orientation event designed to help you settle into your new town.

On the day we will answer all your starting university questions,  and you will tour your new city, make new friends, and find out ‘What’s on’ in your local community.

Course Orientation
(essential for everyone)

Your course orientation is your introduction to what you'll be studying and your course structure.

This will include things such as meeting your teachers, your timetable and where you'll be studying, your enrolment, key dates, assessments, exams and your study support services.

O-Day
(optional for everyone)

O-Day is your chance to discover your campus, meet new people, and get a feel for university life. It’s our biggest on-campus social event - packed with live music, food, student services, clubs, and friendly faces.

If you're studying online and nearby, you're very welcome to join us in person.

Our Community Engagement Leaders will be onsite at all O-Days and help will be available at UConnect across our campuses.  We are here to help answer any questions you have and make your campus experience more enjoyable. This is also where campus tours will depart from.
