Frequently Asked Questions
Orientation attendance requirements varies based on your student group. Some sessions are compulsory, while others are recommended. The program outlines which sessions you are required to attend and which are recommended, so please review it carefully.
If you are an International student you need to attend the compulsory New to Town event on Monday of Orientation week.

Missed Orientation? Access UniStart and other online resources, including year-round Study Toolkit webinars. For missed compulsory sessions, contact your course coordinator.

It is compulsory for international, interstate, intrastate and exchange students to attend the 'New to Town' and it is highly recommended to attend the Course Orientation on 'O-Day'.
If you are a local student you only need to attend 'O-Day' including your Course Orientation.
To change your registration or add additional sessions head to 'Your Schedule' and 'Modify'.

Hobart / Sandy Bay campus
The free UniHopper runs throughout the day to get you between our Hobart City locations, the Sandy Bay campus and accommodation.
Launceston campuses
Metro provides a free service for students and staff travelling between the Newnham, Stops 3 and 4 Invermay Road for the Inveresk campus, the city and Launceston General Hospital on the 110 route upon presentation of a UTAS issued student or staff ID card.
The City of Launceston through Metro provides a free Tiger Bus which operates on selected routes around Launceston City.

All Tasmanian campuses
Metro buses run very frequently between Hobart, Launceston and Cradle Coast campuses and their city centres, and also offer suburban services directly from some campuses. Access timetables via the Metro website.
If taking public transport, using a Greencard is the most convenient way to pay for bus travel. Apply and find out more on the Metro Greencard website.
Sydney Campus
There are buses and trains that go to Lilyfield.

Connect, supports and socialise - student events, clubs and societies
Welcome continues throughout the year with a range of activities and opportunities to try, sample, participate and connect to your new community.
The Tasmanian University Student Association has over 130 clubs and societies for students to join, ranging from acrobatics to zero waste and everything in between. Joining a club or society is a great way to build networks, make lasting friendships, and have fun while at university.
